Thirty-nine production assistants and junior producers, have successfully passed the IPA’s TV Production Knowledge Course, that provides a comprehensive grounding in the skills, procedures and practices necessary for effective agency producers.

The course, which has been running for 17 years, has become well-recognised in the industry as a valuable and important part of a producer’s training. It is aimed at those with at least 18 months of experience within this field and involves one long weekend and eight Tuesday sessions of study which is judged on coursework and a final examination.

Of the 39 successful candidates, 18 gained an ‘A’ grade, 19 a ‘B’ grade and two a ‘C’ grade. They will be awarded tonight (22nd July) at an invitation-only party at Bam-Bou club on Percy Street.

Says Tim Page, Head of TV, RKCR/Y&R and member of the IPA Broadcast Production Policy Group*, “This course genuinely represents the finest training that any production student could have. Seminars and presentations are given by respected industry figures who pass across their collected experiences from years of successful production, whilst key speakers also give invaluable insights into ‘the brave new world’ we're all facing. For an industry that runs at breakneck speed to have considered tuition is imperative. Agency production departments deal with hefty client issues and finances so the value of this highly structured course to trainee producers, the advertising industry and clients alike, cannot be overstated.”

*The IPA Broadcast Production Policy Group (BPPG), formerly the Commercials Production Policy Group, represents and works primarily for those involved in television and radio production. It has been renamed to reflect the broader scope of responsibilities taken on by the former TV production departments of IPA member agencies.
