IR Magazine held its annual awards event for the investor relations community in the City June 2008. The IPA sponsored the award for Best Narrative Reporting, which acknowledges and commends those companies whose narrative reports develop a greater understanding of their business among the analyst and investor community.
The narrative reporting award was decided following a combination of investor perception research, and a rigorous marking process overseen by a panel of expert judges. As sponsors of the award, the IPA has collected the insights generated throughout the judging process in a report, Best practice in narrative reporting 2008.
This report explores the notion of high-quality disclosure as an important part of the process of building value inside a company, and communicating it to the markets. The guidance, and feedback, from the judging process, set out in this document, provide clear pointers for companies on what more they need to do to ensure they are properly positioned, and offers particular insight in areas that relate to the reporting of intangible assets and the creation of brand value to sustain organic growth.
