The CPD standard was launched in 2000 as part of an industry-wide call to raise the professional standing of the business. Commitment to the IPA’s best practice CPD Accreditation Standard is now a mandatory requirement of IPA membership.
The involvement of fee-earning and client-facing departments forms the minimum Accreditation requirement but most agencies extend the programme to all their staff. Professional development needs and activities are now recorded in over 15,500 CPD logs in the IPA CPDZone.
The Accreditation Standard comprises of five key business indicators: demonstrable staff development plans linked to business objectives, induction programmes, appraisal systems, the maintenance of a CPD log by each individual (recording a minimum of 16 hours of learning per year) and, for agencies producing creative content, account directors to have acquired the free online certificate of competence in legal and regulatory measures (LegRegs).
To remain in membership, all IPA agencies must achieve these criteria for Accreditation but there are some companies who far exceed this minimum standard and whose higher level achievement is recognised through the awarding of a Gold CPD Accreditation Standard. It is evident that companies achieving Gold Accreditation place their people development at the heart of their operations. Their submissions show how they harness their skill development to meet company objectives and drive their business success. The vibrancy of their learning culture and the thoroughness of their CPD practice demonstrate the strength of their commitment to the Standard.
