The industry loves new. New ideas. New trends. New, undiscovered directions. But now, it’s ok to embrace things you may have seen before. By recycling you can ensure your agency puts environmental concerns ahead of others, influences consumers and even saves money at the same time.
Fact
The UK produces more than 434 million tonnes of waste every year. This rubbish generation fills the Albert Hall in under two hours.
Fact
It only takes three sacks of paper to save a tree.

Be a paper meany Double sided printing, putting documents on USB memory sticks and a message on emails reminding people not to print unless they have to will all cut down on the amount of paper you use as an agency. |
|
Be an ice queen Get rid of glass and plastic bottles of water. A simple jug of iced water is perfect for meetings. Ok, and perhaps a few slices of lemon. |
|
Remove bins
Remove the bins under everybody’s desk and have centralised waste and recycling bins instead. This gets rid of a ‘throwaway’ mentality: it helps staff think of paper in terms of being a recyclable item. Not just to be scrunched up in the under desk bin. |

Be a recycling guru
Sadly, many local councils don’t have a really good recycling service. So, what to do? Most councils offer recycling centres and their locations can be found at www.recyclenow.com or try www.recyclenow.com/start_recycling/at_work.html . This site gives you tips on how to recycle mobiles and computers through Oxfam. Also check out www.recycleforlondon.com |

It pays to recycle
London is full of companies ready to make a bit of cash out of the city’s somewhat lack-lustre recycling services. These are efficient and reliable. Check them out at sub-it.co.uk . |

Be bag savvy
Does a recycling service that allows you to put all your waste in one bag seem too good to be true? Well, it probably is. Be careful to check when you choose a ‘one bag’ solution, that they do sort out the items and recycle them, and not dump them in a landfill. By having items separated at your agency, a bin for white paper, a bin for coloured paper, one for plastics, you know that the products are going to be recycled. |
