Background to the Effectiveness Awards

The IPA undertakes a substantial programme of activity to promote the value of advertising using the case histories from the national, Scottish and regional AREA (the 2005 Effectiveness Awards replaces the regional AREA Awards) biennial IPA Effectiveness Awards competitions. Activities include seminars and the publication of books, booklets and videos, including a series of best practice guides in a number of sectors such as food and beverages, alcoholic drinks, OTC medicines, retail and financial services. The IPA also monitors external attitudes to advertising. For further details about any aspect of this programme, contact Emma Kane.

Details of all publications from the IPA's various effectiveness awards schemes, including the latest edition of Advertising Works (12, AREA Awards 4, and Scottish Works 2, are available from the IPA Bookshop.

Case Studies

All IPA Effectiveness case studies are indexed in the IPA dataBANK. The papers themselves are available from WARC. Please click here for further details of both.

2004 IPA Effectiveness Awards

For details of the national 2004 IPA Effectiveness Awards click here.  Under the 2004 criteria entrants were once again asked to collaborate on papers and to demonstrate the power of ideas through more than one communication channel. A new ruling allowed non members to enter the competition, and there were changes to some of the special prizes. The 2004 Awards were presented on the 1st November 2004 and were sponsored by the Financial Times in association with WARC.

Scottish Effectiveness Awards

The Scottish IPA runs the Scottish Effectiveness Awards. Winning papers are published in the Scottish Effectiveness Awards series, available from the IPA Bookshop.

Details of all Scottish IPA case studies are available in the IPA databank.

Contact Sara Robertson for further details of the Scottish Effectiveness Awards programme.

The 2005 Effectiveness Awards replaces the AREA Awards

Outside of London and Scotland, there is a biennial regional competition - the 2005 Effectiveness Awards - which are also detailed in the IPA dataBANK. Compilations of winning AREA papers are also available from the IPA Bookshop
