The IPA Finance Committee oversees the IPA's financial affairs.

Every quarter, all the IPA's Committees report to Council on their activities during the previous three months. (NB For reasons of confidentiality, commercially sensitive areas have been excluded from this website version of the original document).

Global EVP Commercial Operations & Production

Appointed April 2017, Janet is responsible for the global expansion of Y&R’s production capabilities, and driving the agencies continued focus on commercial and operational innovation across its global network. Janet was previously Chief Commercial Officer of Grey EMEA until March 2017, leading the development of Grey’s Production business, GreyWorks now Town Productions, and the regeneration of Grey’s commercial modus operandi. During her time at Grey, the agency was Adweek’s Network Agency of the Year, Campaign’s Network Agency of the Year and six times Euro Effie Agency of the Year. Prior to Grey, Janet was Sony Europe’s Marketing Communications Finance & Operations Director, and has also held senior financial, marketing and commercial roles at Coca-Cola. Janet is IPA Treasurer and Council Member, and sits on the Board of the Creative Industries Federation, which represents the whole of the UK and International creative sector.

International Chief Financial Officer

Chris joined the WWAV Group as Chief Financial Officer in 2000. Prior to that he was CFO Northern Europe for the Publicis network, and Group CFO in the UK for Foote Cone & Belding Advertising. Before returning to the UK in 1987, he worked in financial management in Canada and the USA for 15 years. Chris has a degree in Economics from London University, and is a Fellow of the UK Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has worked for many years with the IPA, most recently as Honorary Treasurer (1996-2000) and is a Trustee of the IPA Portable Pension Plan. He is also a Director of ASBOF and the Chair of the Finance Committee of the Advertising Association.

Director General

Paul Bainsfair became Director General of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) at the end of July 2011. Paul is a Fellow of the IPA and also a graduate of IPA Stage 5 (Professor Peter Doyle). His 34 years of agency experience began at Saatchi & Saatchi in 1977 where he started as an account executive and rose to being its CEO within ten years. After successfully steering the agency through the recession, and with the agency at the top of the new business league table, he left to co-found Bainsfair Sharkey Trott with John Sharkey and Dave Trott in 1991. Widely recognised as one of London’s most successful independent agencies during the 1990s, BST was eventually sold to Omnicom in 1998. Between 1999 and 2009 he took on various senior, UK and European facing roles at TBWA, which included: a merger and acquisition programme; direct responsibility for 35 offices and 3,000 staff; and TBWA being named Best Global Network in 2003 and 2006. In 2008 he moved on again to become Non-Executive Chairman at Lean Mean Fighting Machine. In January 2009 he joined Iris, the UK’s largest independent integrated agency, first as Partner and CEO of Iris Europe and then as Chairman of Iris Worldwide. Paul is an advertising graduate of Watford College and a graduate of Omnicom’s Harvard Faculty Leadership Programme. He describes himself as an adman and a farmer. He is married to Sophie and has three children, Bruno, Ted and Phoebe. They live in Holland Park and Wiltshire.

Financial Controller

Andrew joined the IPA as the Senior Finance Manager in 2014. He is a member of CPA Australia and has a degree in Accounting and Economics from Monash University. At the IPA, Andrew is principally responsible the production of management and statutory accounts as well as the annual budget. He is also responsible for all finance projects and improving financial systems and processes, including financial planning, reporting, analysis and commentary.
