16/07/2008Stage 6 Team Leadership 3 - 5 November 2008
Objective
To develop the crucial business skill of effective team leadership for board directors, irrespective of their job function, so that they can draw high performance from their people.
Benefits
Within the context of the particular challenges facing agencies and media specialists, the programme:
. Allows individuals to understand themselves and their impact on others, so they can increase their effectiveness.
. Explores and refines leadership style.
. Identifies strengths and development issues using work-based 360 degree feedback.
. Combines current people management and leadership theory with practical experience.
. Helps manage an effective transition to senior management role.
. Creates tailored personal action plans for implementation at work.
. Provides guidelines for better people management.
Content
The programme is highly interactive, with hands-on opportunities to explore new strategies, techniques and behaviour. Key focus areas for the programme include:
. Gaining clarity on how others currently perceive the individual.
. Developing self understanding, to understand personal impact on others.
. Creating a repertoire of managerial styles appropriate to different circumstances and people.
. Effective teamwork and team learning skills.
In each area the general principles of people management are personalised to be relevant to the individual participant's style and that of his/her organisation. Small group feedback is supplemented by one to one feedback from the course leaders.
Course Leaders
The programme has been developed for the IPA by Dr Tony Chapman who is a business academic who now trains and coaches chief executives and senior managers in blue chip companies across Europe. His particular skill is combining the latest management thinking with the live business experience in a readily accessible style. Since first running the programme in 1994 he has continually fine-tuned the style and content to reflect the changing demands of the advertising industry.
Appropriate Delegates
The programme has proved very valuable to those at board level in creative and media agencies who want to add people management and effective team leadership to their existing jobfunctional skills.
Format
The course is residential and runs over three and a half days. The programme includes talks, diagnostic techniques, team exercises, feedback and individual post-course follow-up to help participants embed new techniques in their organisational setting.
The Delegates' Verdict
"You get on the board, then you begin to question how you work, and manage because you have more responsibility, larger billings and more people than ever before. IPA6 was a brilliant review of myself. 360 degree feedback from 10 colleagues and an honest self-appraisal provided the basis for really understanding my future and how best to progress".
"As IPA 5 is a milestone in terms of business knowledge, I think Stage 6 is the same but for personal development. Without wanting to sound too 'home-made and apple pie', I have honestly never looked back."
"Every Senior Manager to CEO should be forced to do it!"
