Diversity in the creative industries

How is adland doing relative to other sectors in the creative industries?

In July 2016 the Creative Industries Council launched their new industrial strategy to 2020 called ‘Create Together’ - read more about it here.

Diversity is one of the eight key pillars of the strategy.

The ambition is that:

  1. Aspirational diversity targets be set by individual creative industries
  2. Government and industry research and promote the business benefits of diversity 
  3. All sectors introduce comprehensive monitoring

The IPA sits on the CIC Diversity sub group to share best practice and thought leadership with other sectors in the creative industries.

Most sectors within the creative industries are focusing on how best to improve diversity and inclusion, for example, the broadcasters have just launched Diamond – a cross industry data collection and publishing process created in response to Lenny Henry’s rallying call two years ago for an improvement in the number of black, Asian and minority ethnic people on-screen and behind the camera.
