Group Agenda

The IPA Healthcare Group was established to identify, develop and promote best practice in healthcare advertising (for agencies across the spectrum of IPA member agencies that specialise in healthcare or pharmaceutical advertising, or for agencies that hold large healthcare accounts) and to raise the real and perceived value of healthcare agencies.

Founder

Sarah is Founder of Wordbird, a creative agency, specialising in health. Sarah is a graduate of King’s College London. She started her career at Luxford Advertising as a copywriter on Valentine’s Day 1990 – it was love at first write. After a short spell out of the advertising industry with the stop smoking charity, QUIT, Sarah joined Paling Ellis, (later Paling Walters and now TBWA/WorldHealth) becoming Copy Chief within a year. Sarah held this role for over 12 years. From 2006-2012 Sarah worked freelance, consulting for over 30 healthcare communications agencies. Sarah has worked for the vast majority of pharmaceutical company clients, across almost all therapeutic categories on some of the world’s most famous pharmaceutical brands. She has created campaigns for all health audiences. She regularly judges healthcare creative awards and sits on the PAGB Associate Member Committee. Sarah is passionate about giving young talent their break in creative healthcare communications and champions training and development for all. Sarah is married to her business partner, Creative Director, Andrew Nicholson and is mum to two (almost) grown-up sons.

Managing Director

Phil is Managing Director of CDM London, where he’s been since March of 2014. With a background in psychology, Phil started his advertising career with Grey Healthcare before moving to Ogilvy Healthworld, Saatchi & Saatchi Healthcare and McCann Health. In his time Phil has worked with some major most of the major pharma companies across several major brands including Viagra, Nasonex, Crestor, Symbicort, Nexium and Humira in Rx, and Coca-Cola and J&J in consumer health. Phil believes passionately in the power of strong team dynamics – within the agency and between the agency and the client. Just because it’s called “work” doesn’t mean it shouldn’t also be fun.

Managing Director

John has over 25 years marketing communications experience, mostly with global agency networks including McCann, Y&R and Euro RSCG.  He cut his teeth as Account Director on the iconic ‘Tell Sid’ campaign for the Government flotation of British Gas.  Since then John has run both domestic UK and global accounts across most of the major industry sectors for companies such as Coca-Cola, Unilever, J&J, Diageo, Bacardi and Pfizer. He built up significant health related experience in the public/consumer world - Durex and Aids Prevention, J&J oral care & wound care, Unilever skin care, and other brands within cough and cold and babycare. In 2009, John took that experience and co founded a digitally based healthcare agency, Refreshed Wellbeing. Refreshed became one of the fastest growing and  most acclaimed independent digital healthcare/pharma focused agencies in Europe. Became a Pfizer preferred supplier within 12 months of launch, winning pitches for leading edge, pan European campaigns for Aricept, Champix (consumer smoking cessation programme) and Lipitor. Other clients included Mentholatum brands Deep Heat, Deep Freeze, Muscle Rescue and OXY acne prevention. Also gained assignments from LEO Pharma, Grunenthal and Roche. John has been frequently published in European pharma marketing titles, with articles on digital and social media, Closed Loop Marketing and integrated marketing. He sold Refreshed to a US communications group in 2013. John took this unique blend of consumer and health marketing communications experience back to McCann in August 2013 to become Managing Director of HumanCare. In Jan 2014 he became Managing Director of McCann Health in the UK, encompassing both Torre Lazur (Rx, HCP targeted communications) as well as HumanCare  (OTC and consumer/patient targeted communications)
