John has over 25 years marketing communications experience, mostly with global agency networks including McCann, Y&R and Euro RSCG. He cut his teeth as Account Director on the iconic ‘Tell Sid’ campaign for the Government flotation of British Gas. Since then John has run both domestic UK and global accounts across most of the major industry sectors for companies such as Coca-Cola, Unilever, J&J, Diageo, Bacardi and Pfizer.
He built up significant health related experience in the public/consumer world - Durex and Aids Prevention, J&J oral care & wound care, Unilever skin care, and other brands within cough and cold and babycare.
In 2009, John took that experience and co founded a digitally based healthcare agency, Refreshed Wellbeing. Refreshed became one of the fastest growing and most acclaimed independent digital healthcare/pharma focused agencies in Europe. Became a Pfizer preferred supplier within 12 months of launch, winning pitches for leading edge, pan European campaigns for Aricept, Champix (consumer smoking cessation programme) and Lipitor. Other clients included Mentholatum brands Deep Heat, Deep Freeze, Muscle Rescue and OXY acne prevention. Also gained assignments from LEO Pharma, Grunenthal and Roche. John has been frequently published in European pharma marketing titles, with articles on digital and social media, Closed Loop Marketing and integrated marketing. He sold Refreshed to a US communications group in 2013.
John took this unique blend of consumer and health marketing communications experience back to McCann in August 2013 to become Managing Director of HumanCare. In Jan 2014 he became Managing Director of McCann Health in the UK, encompassing both Torre Lazur (Rx, HCP targeted communications) as well as HumanCare (OTC and consumer/patient targeted communications)
