82 entries from 26 agencies have been shortlisted for the 2008 IPA Best of Health Awards, which showcase the best in creative healthcare advertising and marketing communications, across 22 categories including press, poster, direct, new media and international.

In total there were 328 entries submitted into the competition by 59 agencies from countries including the UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Italy and Australia. The shortlist comprises work from UK and international agencies.

Kate Stanners, Chairman of Judges and Creative Partner of M&C Saatchi, and Orrin Pollard, Convenor of Judges and Creative Director of DDB Health (UK), oversaw the stringent judging process, which rewarded only those entries that the judges felt met the highest creative standard.

Says Orrin Pollard, “This year the judging of the IPA Best of Health Awards was probably the best organised that I have ever experienced since the Awards' inception. All of the judges were as open and honest as expected and there was a fair amount of debate around some of the winning entries. The standard generally was encouraging. Not surprisingly, the entries that received the highest accolades were clearly ahead creatively.
I think you’ll agree come awards night that the best work over the last year has been appropriately recognised. I was particularly encouraged by the fresh creative view that Kate Stanners brought to the event and wish to thank her for being our Chair. The Best of Health Awards were originated to reward good creative thinking. This year is no exception.”

Says Kate Stanners, “There were some stand-out campaigns that caused a good debate amongst the judges this year, and my congratulations go out to all those shortlisted. The quality of the ideas of some of the campaigns however was often stronger than the actual crafting of them, which is something to think about for the coming year.”

The full judging panel included the following high-calibre advertising creatives from top healthcare agencies:

• Jeff Daniels, Creative Director, Lane Earl Cox
• Trevor Johnson, Creative Director, Creative Lynx
• Selwyn Learner, Creative Director, Ogilvy Healthworld Advertising
• Brett O'Connor, Joint Creative Director, Torre Lazur McCann
• Mark Robinson, Senior Art Director, Grey Healthcare
• Andrew Spurgeon, Creative Director, Langland
• Bruno Stucchi, Global Creative Director, Sudler & Hennessey Milan
• John Timney, Joint Creative Director, Junction 11
Lon Watson, Executive Creative Director, Medicus London

Category winners will be revealed at the Awards Ceremony and Summer Party on 3rd July 2008 at The Conservatory, Royal Hospital, Chelsea. These include two ‘Best in Show’ awards; one for the healthcare sector and one for the consumer sector. The creative work will be displayed at the Awards night and in an awards supplement. The results will be posted on www.bestofhealthawards.co.uk
