Drummond Central’s Beth Hazon and Dan Appleby appointed as IPA’s North East joint City Head
In their role as City Head, Beth and Dan will engage with IPA members and fellow city heads (Jackie Holt, Andy Reid and Andrew Wilson) as well as Ben Quigley, IPA Chairman of England and Wales, to raise awareness of industry issues and support IPA initiatives. Beth and Dan will also engage with the talent in the North East.
Says Beth Hazon, Managing Director, Drummond Central, “As a proud Newcastle native, being an IPA City Head and flying the flag for the North East is something I’m excited to do. I’m looking forward to demonstrating the unique things our region has to offer and supporting the emerging talent we have who are at the cutting edge of trends and technologies, whilst simultaneously being plugged into the wider national conversations around our industry and making sure we have a voice and a seat at the table.”
Says Dan Appleby, Head of Client Services, Drummond Central, “Having spent time in both London and the north east, I’m looking forward to doing what I can to raise the profile of our region. It’s far from grim up north; we have some exceptionally talented people and agencies doing great things. I’m excited about the prospect of helping to develop and nurture some of that talent through the IPA as well as encouraging the north east to be more vocal on our achievements.”
They succeed Phil Coverdale, Managing Director, Cravens who was North West City Head for three years. During his time as City Head Phil oversaw the region collectively grow and prosper seeing two new member agencies join, a fourfold increase in participation in training events and a significant uptake in those sitting our Foundation Certificate and other professional qualifications.
Says Phil Coverdale, Managing Director, Cravens, “This week we have over 60 people attending an Open House event where they will network with each other and IPA leads for services and initiatives such as; Effectiveness, Insight, Legal and CPD.This coming together as a community is something, alongside the other regional City Heads, which has been the most rewarding aspect of my time in post. Cravens has been an IPA member for 68 years, despite a bewildering amount of change, the advertising community retains far more in common than in competition. We share a passion for a unique industry built around ideas, creativity but most of all people.”
Beth joined Drummond Central in 2006 and led the team on one the largest accounts in the North East for 8 years (bet365), and was integral to the success of bet365 becoming the world’s biggest online gambling company. Beth has a 2:1 in Fashion Journalism from the London Institute (London College of Fashion) now known as the University of Arts and has been honoured with a prestigious IPA Women of Tomorrow Award in the Client Services category.
Dan spent 7 years learning his trade in London, at Gyro, Harrison Troughton Wunderman (now Wunderman) and Partners Andrews Aldridge on clients like Vodafone, learndirect, Fosters, Visit Wales, Airmiles, Oracle and Network Rail.
He returned to his native north east in 2008 and spent time at a number of regional agencies before finally finding his spiritual home at Drummond Central in 2016 where he leads the account handling team across all clients.
Dan graduated from Lancaster University with a 2:1 in English Literature and also has an expired PGCE having quickly realised that classroom life was not for him.
