IPA awards for presentation skills
The invitation to participate in the event went out to IPA Training Forum contacts in May. Twelve people from twelve different IPA agencies signed up to pit their presenting skills against each other.
The IPA set up this initiative because persuasive speaking, without the aid of a powerpoint presentation, is viewed by many as becoming a lost art. However, the event also served to highlight the power and value of training in the industry.
Frederico Rivera from Imagination received several valuable prizes for himself and his agency:
• A one-day presentation skills training course for their agency for up to twelve people (value £3,600)
• A personal prize worth £200 (gift tokens)
• The IPA Presenting Awards Trophy – to be held for a year.
The two runners up were Lauren Lukasiewicz from 23Red and Sabrina Douglas from M&C Saatchi .
Make Yourself, one of the industry’s leaders in delivering presentation skills training, was company selected by the IPA to run the course and judge the winner.
Says IPA Director of Professional Development, Patrick Mills; “ The event has been a completed success. The standard and quality of the presentation skills on show was most impressive. Presenting is often seen as a ‘soft skill’, however this event was anything but soft. The course proved incredibly tough, running over a nine hour period. Participants were put through their paces throughout the day and were filmed giving their final presentation at the end, so that the winner could be selected. Judging by the enquiries we have already received, the number of agencies taking part next year looks set to double. I see this becoming a regular feature on the IPA calendar”.
