IPA publishes its 2003 Annual Review

Publication of 2003 Annual Report on IPA activities

17/01/2008

IPA President Stephen Woodford, in his foreword to a new look IPA Annual Review, published today (27th April 2004) writes on the success of the first IPA Foundation Certificate and the soon-to-launch IPA Excellence Diploma.

Commenting on the importance of these exams to the industry he says: “My hope is that by taking this rigorous and demonstrable approach to our intellectual capabilities, there will be no doubt in anyone’s minds as to the learning potential and strategic capabilities of the agency business.”

Woodford, who begins the second year of his Presidency on 27th April 2004, also outlines his agenda for 2004 which includes encouraging agency management to look at their employment practices after the 2003 Hadden report showed that the average large agency spends as much time on recruitment as it does on redundancy. He also says work will continue on the third examination standard, the MBA which is designed for senior agency staff which will be launched in 2007.

In the review he also praises the team behind the IPA Ethnic Diversity Project which launched its online ethnic diversity guide. This initiative continues under Mehboob Umarji, COI Senior Campaign Manager, who has been seconded to the IPA from the COI to meet agency heads to explain the business case for diversity, and to ask them to sign up to the Ethnic Diversity Project’s Leadership Challenge.

The 2003 review also carries a summary of the year’s activities and a report by IPA Director General Hamish Pringle who writes on the importance of challenging any argument that would see banning advertising as a panacea for social ills. Pringle’s report also outlines how the IPA has worked with other industry bodies, as part of CAF, and particularly as part of the AA Taskforce which was set up to agree how the industry would manage the self-regulation of broadcast media.
