Start-ups offered £100,000 to help shape future of advertising

Small businesses are being offered the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in advertising through a new digital innovation competition run by IC tomorrow, part of the UK’s innovation agency, the Technology Strategy Board.


Held in association with the IPA, the ‘Digital Innovation Contest – Advertising’ is offering four companies a share of £100,000 in funding.

Says Matt Sansam, Programme Manager at IC tomorrow: “The advertising sector has always been shaped by innovation. We’re looking for talented entrepreneurs and start-ups to uncover the next generation of solutions that will keep the sector at the top of its game.”

Winners will be invited to work with some of the biggest names in advertising and innovation. These include: MediaCom and Mars Chocolate UK; media agency, Vizeum; digital advertising trade body, the Internet Advertising Bureau UK (IAB); and innovation charity, Nesta.

Says Janet Hull, Director of Marketing and Reputation Management, IPA: “This contest provides a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to see their ideas come to life. It’s a win-win for all parties and by working together we will accelerate the opportunity for new technology to make its mark.”

The four successful applicants will benefit from up to £25,000 of funding, retain all of their IP, and work in partnership to trial their solution with the respective contest partner.

The contest challenges and their partners are:

  • Next-Generation Social Media Analytics Tools – Internet Advertising Bureau UK (IAB)
  • Enhanced TV Advertising – Vizeum
  • Innovation in Hyperlocal Advertising – Nesta
  • Smart Mobile Advertising – Mars Chocolate UK and MediaCom.
