The IPA Bellwether Report is researched and published by Markit Economics on behalf of the IPA. First published on the 17th July 2000, it features original data drawn from a panel of around 300 UK marketing professionals and provides a key indicator of the health of the economy. Its 8-page report includes a breakdown of total marketing spend (main media, internet, search, direct marketing, sales promotion and all other) and commentary and analysis on other key economic indicators (eg GDP, corporate profitability, interest rates, performance of media stocks and the Purchasing Managers' Index) and business confidence. Pure data is also available.
From Q1 2013 onwards the report has featured new charts including comparing business confidence amongst survey panellists to wider economic output, and depicting how their views on financial prospects are a function of the current business environment. Other new charts detail how key wider variables have impacted on current marketing spend. And for the first time a new model has been created to forecast what adspend will be over the next five years.
