Effectiveness Hall of Fame - Charles Channon

The IPA Effectiveness Hall of Fame honours the late Charles Channon for his role as an instigator of the IPA Effectiveness Awards and his contribution as Convenor of Judges in 1984 and 1986 and editor of "Advertising Works" 3 & 4 books.


The late Charles Channon was Director of Studies at the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising and was one of the creators of the IPA Effectiveness Awards.

Previous to joining the IPA, he was Vice-Chairman and Director of Research and Planning at Ayer Barker.

His career also included periods at JWT, where his accounts included Lever and Rowntree business, and time at the British Market Research Bureau.

In addition to his role at the IPA, Charles Channon was also the first Chairman of the Account Planning Group, and a member of the Market Research Society, ESOMAR and the Advertising Association Research Committee.

He wrote and lectured widely on advertising, account planning and research topics and was an acknowledged expert on tracking studies for advertisers and large scale attitudinal research surveys.
