IPA Effectiveness Awards Judges 2014
The case histories are judged against quality of the case put forward, clarity of presentation, channel exploitation, intrinsic difficulty, original/new thinking, and overall judgement. However, the principle judging criteria is to examine how well an entry demonstrated the commercial effectiveness of an idea.
Chairman of Judges
Lord Davies of Abersoch, CBE
Lord Davies is a Partner and Vice Chairman of Corsair Capital, a private equity firm specialising in financial services. He has a wide range of interests, including being Chairman of the Royal Academy of Arts Trustees. He was Minister for Trade, Investment, Small Business and Infrastructure from January 2009 until May 2010.
Prior to that, he was Chairman and previously CEO, and served on the Board of Standard Chartered for over 12 years.
He was awarded a CBE for his services to the financial sector and the community in Hong Kong in June 2002 where he served as a member of the HK Exchange fund for seven years. Lord Davies is also a JP in Hong Kong.
Lord Davies is married with two children and is a fluent Welsh speaker.

Lorna Hawtin, Disruption Director, TBWA\Manchester
Lorna began her career at with BDH Advertising in 1996 as a Graduate Trainee, rising through the ranks she now heads up the 8 strong planning team at TBWA\Manchester as Disruption Director.
She joined the Value of Advertising Group in 2008 and has authored over 10 winning IPA Effectiveness papers over the years, including a Gold for Imperial Leather.
She is currently completing her thesis as the inaugural Sir John Hegarty scholarship winner to the Berlin School of Creative Leadership execMBA and spends what precious time she has left with her family and other animals.
Deputy Convenor of Judges
Bridget Angear, Joint Chief Strategy Officer, AMV BBDO
Bridget has a degree in economics and started her career in advertising at JWT in 1991.
Ten years later, she left as Planning Director to join AMV BBDO and currently plans advertising campaigns for a broad selection of the agency’s clients.
From helping mastermind the journey of Walkers into one of the most respected brands in the UK, to providing the strategic direction to launch the Make Poverty History campaign.
In January 2008 she was promoted to Joint Chief Strategy officer.
