Jim Thomas/TBWA-BEING London on why you should be a nosey parker
Creative inspiration in a digital world by Jim Thomas, a senior digital creative at TBWA\BEING-London
I’m a nosey parker. I tend to look over the shoulder of others.
So when I walk through the office and see the screens of 32 different people I take a peek.
There are art directors looking longingly at
infographics. Wishing for a release from corporate vanilla brand guidelines.
I overhear an argument about ‘Senna’. How this is the documentary to end all motorsport films. A lone voice disagrees and talks about some scary point of view footage in film with a great bloke called
Guy Martin at the Isle of Man T.T. Can’t disagree.
Sitting down I see that
pinterest is now the social media du jour. I have another 22 messages telling me that people are following my pinterest. Is Facebook oh-so last week? How did that happen? Crikey.
Someone sends me a link. Now a ‘how-do-they-do-that-moment?’ An ad that
only girls will see.
Opening another link I see that you can have
flying machines/mini-drones programmed to fly in formation and wonder who’ll be the first to use this.
I go to get a coffee and see that someone is watching The Prodigy’s
‘Warrior Dance’. Who’d have thought cigarette packets could be so aggressive?
Now away from the pixel I’m shown two old-fashioned
business cards. How quaint. No.
How useful.
Walking home I switch on the ‘Night Sky’ app and see all the stars and planets all around me. I wonder if I’ll soon be able to walk home guided by the stars. Course I will. That’s next week. Keep up.
