This hub provides guidance for the advertising sector on how to take action to increase diversity within the industry. The objective is to equip agencies with the basic background knowledge around the current facts and stats, make the business case for diversity and provide you with quick and simple recommendations which may be actioned immediately. Finally, we would like the hub to act as a catalyst for change and act as a platform promoting good work that’s already being done in the sector; as well as celebrate and make visible existing diversity champions to inspire the next generation of future leaders.
By global competitiveness indicators, the UK is one of the top-performing advertising economies. The Gunn Report, the annual industry ranking of agencies that have won awards in creative competitions, placed the UK second worldwide - behind only the US. The UK also provided the winner of the Cannes Lion for Creative Effectiveness twice in the first three years of this global competition
Ensuring diversity is at the heart of our industry, at all levels, is vital for us if we are to both win the war on talent as well as remain relevant and representative of our clients, consumers and audiences in the future. Not only does diversity of thought lead to creative advantage, it makes business sense to put in the required time and effort to both attract and retain the best talent and drive this approach top down.
The IPA’s Talent Leadership Group (TLG) chaired by Rick Hirst (Carat) and Julian Douglas (VCCP) acts as an advisory board for the hub.
The hub is central to the IPA’s ongoing Diversity agenda and achieving the targets to 2020 set by former IPA President Tom Knox whose agenda stressed advertising’s role as a culturally, socially and economically enriching force for good.
